Self Employed Business Development Role - Cornwall Pass reseller sales channel development.
Due to the overwhelming success of the Cornwall Pass discount card scheme, we are now engaging a self employed commission only based Business Development Manager to expand our product reseller channel with the tourism sector across Cornwall. This is a high profile role and we are looking for someone with good B2B sales experience to identify prospective product resellers within the Holiday Park, Touring and Camping sites, Accommodation providers, retail and other sectors. In addition, you will also be required to expand the number of participating businesses in the Cornwall Pass scheme across all tourism sectors and actively promote the benefits of participating in the scheme.
The role.
The main focus of the position is to develop the product reseller channels and this will involve identifying prospective resellers, visiting them and signing them up as resellers. In addition, you will be required to expand the number of businesses participating in the scheme which will include all dining related businesses, all accommodation type businesses, attractions, activities, and various non-tourism related businesses to increase the appeal of the Cornwall Pass to the residential sector. In addition to developing the reseller network and participating businesses on the Cornwall Pass side, you will also be required to develop advertising sales for our Cornwall Tourism Magazine which is printed bi-annually.
The Cornwall Pass reseller channels.
The Cornwall Pass participating business scheme is very easy to sell because it offers our clients a no cost way of bringing more customers into their businesses and also provides them with extensive free advertising and promotion and the take up is very high. In addition, if they become resellers of the product, they are able to generate a significant income stream subject to the volume of Pass's they sell, therefore, the primary role is to develop the reseller channels to generate a minimum of 4000 unit sales per month. Given that many prospect groups, i.e. holiday parks, etc have a visitor through flow of 2000 - 5000 per week during the main holiday season, this figure is very achievable and with the volume of potential resellers available, we have identified around 2000 potential resellers, we anticipate the right person will easy generate sales of 5000 - 6000 units per month adjusted across the year.
The Cornwall Tourism Magazine.
The Cornwall Tourism Magazine is unique in that it is the only free to the reader publication that is distributed outside the county. It is a high end product dedicated to promoting Cornwall as an all year round holiday destination and the businesses who advertise in it and has attracted a significant level of interest. The magazine is published bi-annually with a Spring/Summer edition published in March and an Autumn/Winter edition published in August with a minimum of 50,000 copies per edition printed. There is also a fully readable online version of the magazine and we attract an annual first person readership of 150,000 across both editions.
In addition to developing the Cornwall Pass reseller network, you will also be required to generate advertising sales. As the magazine is published bi-annually, the main advertising sales periods are at the beginning and end of the main holiday season and will involved visiting prospects to sell advertising space. The uniqueness and quality of the product along with our very reasonable advertising rates enables advertising space to be sold very easily, and you will be targeted with 30 new advertisers per edition. Given that most advertisers place adverts in both editions, this is very achievable.

Your skills.
You must have previous Sales and B2B Business Development experience to be considered for this role. Although the product is relatively easy to sell, we are not looking for order takers, we want someone who will proactively promote our products and services to the tourism sector and generate new business opportunities, therefore, if you do not have previous B2B sales and business development experience, you are unlikely to be considered.
Our business is about getting out there amongst the market place and to be successful in this role, you will need to be very dynamic, charismatic and have very good communication and presentation skills. Our products do not require hard selling skills as they easily sell themselves, so we are looking for someone who has a range of high level sales skills to both develop client business relationships and successfully manage them. This is a high profile role as you will be representing our company and our brands which have a very high perception in the market place so you will need to be very professional and also have a strong understanding of long term client relationship building and to deliver an above average level of customer service in all situations.
We are looking for an experienced, focused and forward thinking person who is driven by the need to exceed targets, who will drive our business forward and who understands that hard work produces above average financial rewards. You will have experience in B2B sales and business development, preferably within the tourism sector in Cornwall and have experience with developing and maintaining long term client business relationships. You will need high levels of drive and enthusiasm, be self motivated, have very good time management skills and be used to maximizing your time to develop all available opportunities and you must also have the ability to make your own appointments and business opportunities. This is a long term position and the successful applicant will enjoy a long and rewarding future with us, therefore, we are only interested in applicants who are looking for a long term position.
The rewards.
The role is commission only based and we pay a rate of 15% commission on all Cornwall Pass reseller sales on an on going basis and a flat rate fee for all new participating businesses who sign up to the Cornwall Pass scheme. We have set very conservative targets which if achieved will provide a combined income of £25k per annum, however, we are really looking for someone who will significantly exceed these targets so we expect the right person to earning around £30k per annum.
In addition to the Cornwall Pass product sales, we also pay a flat rate of between 20% and 25% per sale for advertising sales for the Cornwall Tourism Magazine depending on whether we provide the lead or the sale is self generated. As an example of the income potential available, a quarter page advert in a single edition costs £310.00 and the commission @ 25% equates to £77.00. A half page advert costs £475.00 and the commission @ 25% equates to £118.00. A full page advert cost £754.00 and the commission @ 25% equates to £188.00.
With a commission rate of 25%, for self generated sales, there is an additional income potential of £6k plus available which will give a combined income of around £35K plus per annum. In addition to the commission based rewards, the successful applicant will also be involved with our expansion of the Cornwall Pass scheme into Devon with the Devon Pass and in the market development of the other products and services we have in the pipeline, therefore, this is not a job as such, it is a lifestyle change and you will enjoy working within one of the most dynamic and unique businesses in the South West.
